Essay about Changes in My Life

Our world is a very diverse place, tying in one knot beauty and ugliness, happiness and suffering, meanness and devotion. Stepping out of the front door of my house, I cannot help admiring the wonderful landscapes I see about and the beauty of the sun, moon and the stars. When I look at the human world, however, I see many things I like to change. There are people tormented by their addiction to drugs, those who cannot make a step without alcohol, kids who are sexually assaulted, and politicians who kill others in bloody wars.

Wars are something especially ugly on this planet since they take the death toll that is not dependent on personal qualities and desire to get involved. The war simply enters your territory, and people are helpless to escape, to get away from the devastating military machine plundering their homes and land. Later, politicians can decide they made a mistake, or that the results were inconclusive, but this does not matter for millions or thousands that are already dead. Even against the background of the two deadly world wars and the recently mitigated threat of nuclear warfare, politicians still resort to war as a means to forward goals they fail to promote in other ways.

In October 2004, researchers from the Lancet report estimated that in Iraq “as many as 100,000 more people may have died throughout the country in the 18 months after the U.S. invasion than would be expected based on the death rate before the war” (Associated Press, 2004). Until there is peace of the globe, there will be many things to change in politics to make sure people do not die because of somebody’s mistakes.

I would also like to invent a drug that would put a stop to all addictions, repair all families ruined because of a spouse’s involvement with drugs or alcohol. The world would be a much happier place if all these people could have their human look returned to them instead of having to live with their dependency that draws a veil behind their eyes, showing them the world not as it is, but as their clouded mind perceives it. The world would be a much happier place if people could shed their addictions like past year’s leaves.

The children whose young psyche is damaged through sexual abuse also deserve our help. Statistics show that “an average of 5.5 children per 10,000 enrolled in day care are sexually abused, an average of 8.9 children out of every 10,000 are abused in the home” (Sexual Abuse Statistics). The abuse experienced in childhood, rankles in these children’s souls for a lifetime. I would want parents and educators to recognize that overcoming sexual assaulting of children is one of their principal tasks which they must make a priority.

Thus, the world still needs many changes. In my deepest conviction, a human being is born to be free and happy. Everything that disrupts this natural condition is a distortion of life and has to be eliminated. People of the future should see much less ruin, devastation, war, and misfortune than we do today.
