Antisocial Behavior Research Paper

Antisocial behavior is a behavior harmful to society in general and to the individuals who compose it. Anantisocial person is deliberately or unintentionally indifferent to the standards that govern society. This type of behavior can manifest itself in several ways: aggression, violence, and violation of other people rights, egocentrism, irresponsible behavior (the subject does not measure the consequences of his actions), absence of guilt… Psychotherapy is the base treatment, sometimes accompanied by antipsychotic drugs.

In more narrow sense, antisocial behavior is an attenuated form of psychopathy. The person with antisocial personality disorder shows indifference against social norms and cultural codes, as well as the emotions and rights of others. It generally adopts an impulsive behavior, to meet its own needs, regardless of the consequences on others.

Antisocial behavior study also uses the term sociopath to designate people diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder.

2.1% to 4.3% of the population suffers from this personality disorder. People with personality antisocial behavior are almost exclusively male.

Symptoms antisocial behavior includes:

  • Recurring trouble with the law
  • A tendency to violate the rights of others (property, physical, sexual, emotional, or legal)
  • Aggressive behaviour (intimidating, manipulator), often violent
  • A very low tolerance to frustration
  • Difficulties in keeping a job
  • A permanent feeling of agitation or depression (dysphoria)
  • An inability to withstand boredom
  • The disregard for safety of self or others
  • A child showing behavioral disorders
  • Impulsivity
  • Lack of guilt
  • A tendency to put the blame on others or find excuses to explain your own behavior
  • A failure to anticipate the consequences of your actions
  • An inability to take account of past experiences
  • Lack of feeling emotional (emotional)
  • Egocentrism: the person builds superficial relationships often limited by looking for immediate self-satisfaction.
  • People with antisocial personality disorder often have difficulties with authority (for example: police officers, bosses, teachers, etc.).
These people may blame their victims for being stupid and deserve their fate.
Antisocial personality disorder cannot be diagnosed until adulthood. However, there are three warning signs that can be detected in some children.

    These three signs are:

    1. unusually long periods of enuresis (involuntary and unconscious urination in children over 5 years)
    2. animal cruelty
    3. pyromania (extreme fascination with fire)

These signs are often found in the past of antisocial diagnosed individuals, however, not all children showing these three signs necessarily develop antisocial personality disorder.

The exact cause of antisocial personality disorder remains, to this day, unknown. Biological and genetic factors may be involved, that is, the person may be predisposed to develop this disorder because of his family history and other biological factors.

Exposure to violence at a young age or maltreatment in childhood may also contribute to the development ofantisocial personality disorder. Other environmental factors present in various spheres of life of the child (school, living environment) are also likely to contribute to the emergence of this mental disorder.
